Our tiny, brave, and beloved companion

Thumbelina was no bigger than a thumb, but the love she brought into our home was vast and immeasurable. From the moment she joined our family, her gentle presence filled every corner of our hearts. She loved to cuddle and explore, often nestling against us with trust and warmth, crawling up to rest contentedly on a cheek or a chest — as if she knew she belonged right there with us.

Watching her traverse a bed like a great adventurer on pilgrimage, or carefully sizing up a meal before bravely trying—and adorably failing—to take a bite, brought endless laughter and joy. Her small, determined spirit made even the simplest moments feel magical.

When Thumbelina became ill, we did everything we could to help her. We brought her to see the best reptile veterinarian we could find, holding onto hope with every mile. She spent her final moments embraced in Gaetana’s loving hands, surrounded by warmth, tenderness, and the family who adored her.

Though she was with us for only a short time, Thumbelina left an indelible mark. She taught us responsibility through her care, resilience through her tiny but determined steps, and brought a greater depth of love into every heart she touched. Losing her at such a tender age — just a baby at the very beginning of her life — has left an ache in our home and hearts. Her passing has especially touched Luciana, who loved turtles deeply and saved for a year to bring her cherished Thumbelina home.

Thumbelina may have been small, but her impact was mighty. She will always be remembered for the joy she brought, the lessons she taught, and the love she inspired. 🐢💛
